Each pebble in this work is a tiny part of New Zealand. I found them on a beach on the south coast of the South Island. They are washed up there after a journey lasting millennia, starting off as rocks broken from the mountains by the forces of erosion, washed by streams and rivers down to the sea, where they are pounded, swirled and tumbled by the waves and finally end up as smooth round pebbles on the beach. -
I have drilled holes in the stones, or set them in bezels, but have not altered the shape, nor polished them. I find these pebbles beautiful and I hope by using them in my jewellery to draw other people's attention to them so that they can enjoy them too. -
The silver leaves I have used are from one of our native beech species. The neckbands are crocheted pure silver.

This pebble jewellery can be seen at LureWorks, Dunedin from November 1, 2007.
