Putaputaweta

This necklace is based on my putaputaweta tree (Carpodetus serratus) shown at left.
A weta is a huge cricket-like insect native to NZ. The maori
'putaputaweta' means 'place where the weta hides'.

The colour is niobium, a reactive metal which is a
sister metal to titanium, and the colour can be varied according to choice.
