Kauri Remnants

These designs are based on the natural shapes of the kauri remnants and foliage which falls underfoot along paths and footpaths.
They are intended as a reminder of the threat facing this iconic tree, the threat of kauri dieback disease (see below).

Kauri leaf earrings.

These earrings are of coloured niobium riveted onto sterling silver back.
The only colours available are 'gold' and 'green' (shown middle and right above)
which are the colours of new leaves.

They are also made in pure silver (shown at left above)

KAURI DIEBACK DISEASE

The pathogen that causes kauri dieback disease, Phytophthora agathidicida, was only
discovered in 2009. There is no cure for kauri dieback disease, and the disease
kills most if not all the kauri trees it infects. It can be spread by just a
pinhead of soil on hikers' boots. Kauri dieback disease is threatening kauri
with functional extinction.
